Youth Developer Encourages Business Partnerships

Written by Wilcox County Youth Development Facilitator, Kenyatta Y. Ray

December 2000 --

Become a Partner Today

Attention Businesses:

The Wilcox County Children’s Policy Council is devoted to bettering the lives of the youth of Wilcox County.  With this in mind, the Council is encouraging educational and economic partnerships with the school systems and businesses throughout Wilcox County.  The Council is committed to strengthening youth with the resources and tools they will need to become productive citizens in life by utilizing every resource that is available through its partnership with the Selma Employment Security Office and the Monroeville Career Center.  Both the Employment Office and Career Center are service sites for Wilcox County.

 Children’s Policy Councils across the state of Alabama, along with the Department of Children’s Affairs in Montgomery, Alabama have partnered together to ensure that “no child is left behind” for lack of adequate resources.  The Wilcox County Children’s Policy Council is pleased to a part of this statewide effort and we wish to succeed on a level that is comparable with our cohorts.  Therefore, we are reaching out to the community to assist in these efforts.  Everyone’s assistance is needed to positively impact the lives of Wilcox County’s youth and provide them with every opportunity to reach their goals of higher education and long-term steady employment.

 The Wilcox County Children’s Policy Council invites your business to partner with the efforts of the Council to better the lives of the youth of Wilcox County.  Presently, there are four ways in which a business can become a partner.  They are:

                  1.      hire youth for the summer;

2.      serve as a placement work site for the Employment Service Center of Selma, Alabama, with the possibility of hire after the six-weeks if youth demonstrates adequate professionalism and ability to perform required duties;  (Funds are available to compensate the youth for the six-week training period.)

3.      hire youth after school until he/she completes high school; or

4.      making a monetary contribution to these efforts.

Your business will receive a letter with instructions and complete details.  If you would like to be a part of the ongoing collaboration to change the lives of Wilcox County’s Youth, please return the “letter of commitment” found in your commitment package.  For additional information, or if you have any questions, please contact Kenyatta Y. Ray, Youth Development Facilitator at (334) 682-4998.

Additionally, your business can always find out what the Council is doing by attending the monthly Children’s Policy Council meetings.  The next meeting is scheduled for December 19, 2002 at 12 noon in the Courthouse Annex.  The meeting will be held in the large courtroom on the 3rd Floor.
